I got this email from Tim over at tmeyerinc.com. I've bought parts from him
in the past, he's a great guy to deal with and loves building BB Fords. I
know there's plenty of folk hereabouts who are willing to express their
opinions so have at it:

I want your opinion.

Badger is going to custom make some pistons for me.

They are going to be a Hypereutectic 400 flat top. They will use a
1.5/1.5/4.0 ring set,(same as 5.0 mustangs), they will keep the 400 pin
size( no need for bushed rods), but we are going to give it a compression
height so the piston will come to the top of a 10.300 block height.
At this point it would be a 10.3:1 compression with 78 cc heads. We will
have the option of lowering the compression by machining a small dish in the
middle, and keep any possibility of squish.

What do you think? Am I wasting my money and time?

Well, that depends on demand of course. Between this NG and our respective
forums we can see what sort of demand there might be, assuming readers visit
other forums and get the word out. Does he want folks to email him?

If he's willing to stock them for a while, he should sell them. What
quantity is he ordering?

I guess the truck guys will drive this one. So many hot rodders are used to
bushing the 351C slugs. If the price is not better than 351C slugs and
bushed rods, there may be no interest.

I'm sure he'd welcome input from knowledgeable Ford guys. I'm not going to
post his email address here for the 'bots but you can reach him thru his
website at www.tmeyerinc.com.

Tim is a semi-frequent contributor to the 335 and 385 forums on FTE and he's
aware of the rather strict guidelines about "advertising" on the forums.
I'll do whatever I can to help spread the word but being a mod I have to
play by the rules. I've discussed Tim's business interests with the sites
owner in the past and gotten shut down. Bottom line, if you want to promote
a product in the forum you have to be a paying sponsor of the site.

My response to his email was realistically even with a zero deck, flat top
piston how much quench can one reasonably expect to get out of an open
chamber type head? The other question I had was what about making a zero
deck, flat top with the Aussie 302C heads in mind, i.e. a dish which matches
up with the comb. chamber of the 302C head and lowers the CR to 10/10.5:1?

I can answer that one. None. There is no point at which the piston comes
within .06 max distance to a flat area of the head. You can't have quench
with the open chamber heads at all unless you come up with some wild popup.

Well, using the handy dandy KB online calculator, it's gonna be a deeeeep
dish.

4.03 bore
4 stroke
4.1 gasket diameter
.041 gasket thickness
zero deck
56 cc head (aussie 302c)
25cc piston dish
10.3:1 CR
Shaped to the chamber to ensure quench, you are gonna have to make room for
that dish in the center. 4V closed heads are closer to 60 ccs.

Well, throw it out there and let the people opine.
